वैज्ञानिक जर्नल Taiwania ने 23 अक्टूबर 2026 को Arunachal Pradesh के Changlang जिले से Ophiorrhiza shidiensis और Ophiorrhiza pemae नामक दो नई species का formal taxonomic description प्रकाशित किया।
Taxonomy
- Genus: Ophiorrhiza
- Family: Rubiaceae—इसी परिवार में coffee भी आती है।
- Biogeographic keyword: Indo-Burma.
- Paper में morphology, habitat, distribution और provisional IUCN conservation assessments दिए गए हैं।
दोनों प्रजातियों की पहचान
O. shidiensis को allied O. wallichii से habit, leaf characters, inflorescence और pink corolla जैसे traits से अलग किया गया है। O. pemae O. himadrica से संबंधित है लेकिन petiole, leaf blade, stipules, inflorescence और stigma में अलग characteristics रखती है।
Prelims के लिए
- Changlang Arunachal Pradesh में है और Eastern Himalaya/Indo-Burma transition की उच्च जैव विविधता से जुड़ा है।
- नई species “खोज” और “वैज्ञानिक रूप से वर्णित/प्रकाशित” होने में अंतर होता है; taxonomy में valid publication महत्वपूर्ण है।

संरक्षण महत्व
नई taxa का description conservation planning का पहला कदम है। सीमित distribution वाली Himalayan species road expansion, habitat fragmentation और climate shifts से संवेदनशील हो सकती हैं; इसलिए field surveys और population data के बाद IUCN assessment महत्वपूर्ण होता है।
