24 अक्टूबर 2026 को IITM की Delhi Branch में Integrated Atmospheric Chemistry and Aerosol Toxicity Analysis Laboratory (AATAL) का उद्घाटन किया गया। इसे Ministry of Earth Sciences ने Mission Mausam के अंतर्गत Delhi-NCR के लिए world-first-of-its-kind integrated air-pollution analysis facility बताया है।
AATAL क्या करेगा?
- केवल AQI level नहीं, pollutants की chemical composition पहचानेगा।
- real-time/near-real-time source apportionment में मदद।
- pollution sources के relative contribution और potential health implications का analysis.
- AIRWISE के साथ integration द्वारा forecasting और scientific decision support.
- CAQM और pollution-control agencies को interventions target/evaluate करने में support.
AQI बनाम Source Apportionment
AQI बताता है कि हवा कितनी प्रदूषित है; source apportionment बताता है प्रदूषण कहाँ से आया—transport, biomass burning, industry, secondary aerosols, dust आदि में कितना योगदान है। Policy action के लिए दोनों का संयोजन आवश्यक है।
Mission Mausam से संबंध
Mission Mausam का व्यापक उद्देश्य weather और atmospheric science की observation, modelling और prediction capability मजबूत करना है। AATAL atmospheric chemistry को health/toxicity और real-time source information से जोड़कर urban air-quality management के लिए actionable science उपलब्ध कराता है।

Delhi-NCR air pollution multi-source और episodic है; एक ही blanket restriction हर समय समान प्रभावी नहीं होती। high-resolution source data seasonal और location-specific interventions को बेहतर बना सकती है। चुनौती data transparency, independent validation और scientific evidence को enforceable urban/transport/industrial action में बदलने की है।
